"For the Angel’s sake, Tess, why do you women wear these bloody things?" Will groused as he gave the laces another hearty tug. Tessa held herself steady, unused to the strength behind the yanks on her corset.
"Because it’s proper, Will," she answered him in a clipped voice. True, she was more comfortable out of the device, but she couldn’t possibly dream of leaving their home without one. "Not wearing one is paramount to walking about naked."
Will leered at her in the mirror and Tessa had to resist the urge to change her facial features into those of his mother. The only thought stopping her was that her corset might unlace and she’d be stuck waiting through another half an hour of complaining and wrestling with whale bone and lace until she’d reach this same point again.
"There are worse things," he murmured to her before giving another rough tug on the laces. Tessa took an experimental breath. No, still too loose.
"You’re almost there, Will. And would you really want other men to see me the way you do?" Her eyes sparkled at him in the mirror and Tessa delighted in the way his blue eyes darkened, going from bright to stormy in a split second. She could always tell how her WIlliam felt just by looking into his eyes.
"Never," he rasped. "You’re mine to look at, and mine alone."
Tessa huffed. “I am not a possession, William Herondale, and you would do well to remember that.” Despite that, though, her heart still swelled, knowing he’d defend and protect her. He’d fight for her.
Will gave one last pull on the laces and Tessa sighed in relief. “There. Now you just have to tie it so it doesn’t come undone. And none of your silly Shadowhunter knots, do you hear me? A bow, William.”
Will grumbled good naturedly as his fingers began the task of tying his wife- his wife- a bow. “I am a man and men do not tie frilly bows.”
Tessa quirked an eyebrow at him in the mirror. “A bow will make it easier to remove tonight.”
"A bow it is."
